Handbook and Policies

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the Liberty Center Digital Academy (LCDA).  The LCDA is committed to providing a safe, technologically-rich learning environment where high expectations integrate home, student, school and community. Liberty Center Schools has implemented this innovative instructional environment to further support the diverse learning needs of their students through the Northwest Ohio Virtual Academy (NOVA).

Through the DA, students are able to take a variety of courses that fit their interests and educational needs. Your student will be taking courses offered through NOVA and Schools PLP.

I will be onsite to support LC students and families who are learning through the LCDA. Whether a student attends the DA throughout the day or from home, he or she will be expected to follow the same rules and guidelines expected in a traditional classroom. The opportunity to learn online is unique and requires effort and discipline to be successful.

Should you need additional resources from home, please visit the school site at http://www.libertycenterschools.org/departments/digital_academy. We are looking forward to starting a new year and helping your student succeed.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kati Weaks

Digital Academy Coordinator

LCDA Expectations and Policies

As a member of the Liberty Center Digital Academy (therefore, a student of Liberty Center Public Schools), I will:

Display an attitude of dignity and respect when interacting with other students and staff.
Refrain from using any foul or profane language directed at another student or staff.
Use websites only pertaining to schoolwork while in the Digital Academy lab.
Complete the Digital Academy work outlined for me on a weekly basis.
Be present in the Liberty Center Digital Academy lab facility when I am scheduled to be.
Use only the facilities open to Digital Academy students unless expressly given permission by the program coordinator.
Students will refrain from the use of cell phones or other electronic devices not pertaining to coursework completion. If a student is to be reached, please contact the school office.
Students are expected to and will complete their own work for course completion, cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated.
Students enrolling in a DA course are allowed to withdraw from the course with coordinator and principal approval for up to two weeks without receiving a withdrawn F. The student must pick a like course to enroll in at this time or will receive a withdrawn F. Students are expected to complete the course(s) they are enrolled in prior to the last day of the semester of that course(s). The coordinator and principal will make determinations based on individual student needs for any special circumstances.
Students participating in the Digital Academy are expected to follow and abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the LCHS Student-Parent Handbook or otherwise stated in this packet.

Inability to abide by these guidelines is grounds for further disciplinary action as seen necessary by the coordinator and/or building principal.

LCDA Attendance Agreement

As a student in the Liberty Center Digital Academy, you will be held to the attendance policy as outlined below.  Online enrollment sometimes offers a schedule different from the traditional school day, therefore it is important to read and understand the regulations of attendance below.

●In-school DA students are required to meet a progress percentage mark each week. Students that have not met the goal by the following Monday will be given a Friday night detention. The detention serves to allow students two extra hours of focused time on school work.
●Online-only students who do not meet weekly percentage goals will meet with the coordinator first and then with parents and principal for any issues after.
●Students taking any portion of their coursework in the classroom will need to have absences reported to the office.Online only students can report absences directly to the Digital Academy Coordinator.
●Online only students are allowed five unexcused absences before a truancy report will be filed against the student. An unexcused absence is one without notice to the school, without just cause, or without a doctor’s note if so required.
●Students have the unique opportunity to make up an absence by coming into the Digital Academy lab for an additional day or extended hours to make up the hours missed. This opportunity must be approved by the DA coordinator and/or the building principal.
●Online only students who work from home are expected to log one hour per enrolled course per day (i.e5 courses = 5 hours) and make progress in those courses per the semester progress chart. If a student is not meeting the hourly and progress goals, the student’s account will be counted absent, have their account inactivated, and the parent and student will need to come and meet with the principal and DA Coordinator to determine a plan of action.

We agree to the outlined schedule above and agree to the regulations set within the attendance policy.  We understand that inability to fulfill progress requirements and/or show up for lab appointments will directly result in a truancy report.

LCDA Student Supply List

Students are asked to bring the following items to school with them daily. If you prefer, they may be stored in the digital academy lab for daily use, but please mark them with your student’s name.  These items are used frequently, but will not be supplied for your student by the school.  I will supply my student with the following:

✓  Headphones (THESE ARE MANDATORY FOR DA COURSES)

✓  Calculator

✓   Paper/notebook

✓   Folder(s)

✓   Pencils/Pens

✓   Associated text book, e-book, or other class materials

Email will be our primary means of communication with parents and I am asking for an active email address that I can contact the parent/guardian. This will be for updates on student progress, or if there are any other issues that need discussed throughout the student’s time in the LCDA. Thank you for your cooperation.

By signing this agreement and filling out the information, this will signify that both the student and parent/guardian have read and agree to comply with rules and processes of the Digital Academy at LC Schools.
